Your Impact 🌍
What is your environmental impact by choosing to shop with a small brand like us?
Imagine if every bikini you wore helped do a little better for the ocean, for the people making it, and for the planet. That’s what we aim for at Salt & Skye: using recycled ocean-bound or recycled materials, working with ethical manufacturers, and keeping things small, conscious, and considered.
At the heart of our swimwear is the use of recycled materials like ocean-bound waste chosen to reduce demand for virgin resources and limit environmental harm.
Two key materials we use are ECONYL® and REPREVE® renowned for their sustainability and innovative approach to recycling waste into high-quality fibres.
Using ECONYL® instead of virgin nylon helps cut down on fossil fuels and emissions. For every 10,000 tonnes produced, it saves around 70,000 barrels of crude oil and avoids over 65,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. That’s because it’s made from waste, not oil - like fishing nets, fabric scraps, and old carpets.*
*Compared to the impact of producing traditional oil-based nylon, according to ECONYL®’s life-cycle assessment.
REPREVE® transforms plastic bottles into premium, sustainable fibres. So far, over 35 billion bottles have been recycled, significantly reducing plastic pollution. By repurposing waste, it helps cut down on greenhouse gas emissions.
When you choose swimwear made with these materials, you’re not just buying something beautiful you’re choosing a piece that’s been thoughtfully made using recycled ocean recovered waste, with care for the planet and the people behind it.
Your Choice Means Something
When you shop from a brand like ours -releasing bikinis in small batches you’re supporting a slower, more conscious way of doing things. Small-batch production helps avoid overproduction, supports ethical working conditions, and puts quality first.
In the UK alone, around 350,000 tonnes of clothing end up in landfill each year. Fast fashion has driven a 60% increase in clothing consumption over the last 15 years, with items being kept for half as long. This cycle of overproduction and short-term use is putting serious pressure on the planet.
By choosing small-batch swimwear, you're investing in a piece that’s designed to last beyond a single season - made with care, made to feel good, and made to stay with you. It’s a choice that supports people and the planet, without the waste.
Helping the Ocean Heal with Every Purchase 🪸
With every order, you’re supporting our mission to protect the oceans. A percentage of each sale goes toward programs focused on marine conservation and ecosystem restoration.
- Volunteer divers recovering abandoned fishing nets.
- Plastic recycling initiatives that keep litter out of our seas.
- Coral and mangrove planting programs to restore vital ecosystems.
Coral planting is essential for healthy oceans, supporting marine biodiversity, protecting coastlines, and sustaining local communities. Our founder, Tyla, has firsthand experience in conservation programs, including coral restoration. Together, we can help create a healthier, more resilient ocean for future generations.
